Cybersecurity Analyst Salary in Nevada

With Nevada increasingly becoming a prized site for IT and cybersecurity companies, the number of job postings for cybersecurity architects, auditors, engineers, analysts, and administrators grew by 89% between 2010 and 2014 according to the tech staffing firm Burning Glass Technologies. The demand for cybersecurity experts frequently outstrips supply, resulting in high starting salary offers as employers compete for top talent. Burning Glass Technologies reported that cybersecurity experts earn an average salary that is 9% higher than that of other IT professionals.

The Reno area welcomed the announcement that a high-profile cybersecurity company would locate its global headquarters there. Ghost Systems made the announcement at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in late 2014 and predicted that they would generate as many as 150 jobs in the area. The CEO, Donald Ritzman, told the Reno Gazette-Journal that Reno’s location, fiber optic network, and affordable power are helping the area to become established as a “significant technology hub.”

With the prominent hack of the Sands Corporation by the Iranian government, the gaming industry lobbied hard for legislation that would mandate greater sharing of cybersecurity knowledge between the government and the private sector. The President and CEO of the American Gaming Association, Geoff Freeman, told KNPR’s State of Nevada that he would like to see the same level of cooperation between the government and casinos applied to cybersecurity efforts designed to thwart financial crimes. Obama subsequently signed the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 into law.

The government of Clark County won high praise from the security risk benchmarking firm Security Scorecard in April 2016 for the stringency of its cybersecurity efforts. Reuters reported that Security Scorecard found that federal, state, and local government agencies ranked last in cybersecurity compared to 17 major private industries.
